Career Opportunity - Geologist/Hydrogeologist

We are seeking a motivated hydrogeologist for our head office in Vancouver or Nanaimo

We are seeking a motivated Geologist/Hydrogeologist for our office in Vancouver or Nanaimo.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Geology (Earth Sciences) or Geological Engineering with an emphasis on structural geology and/or Quaternary geology.
  • Training and recent experience in the use of geological modeling software, e.g., Leapfrog, and other relevant software, such as GlobalMapper.
  • Five years of consulting experience with an emphasis on field work and/or conceptual modeling.
  • A post-graduate degree in hydrogeology or significant undergraduate coursework in hydrogeology would be an asset.
  • Basic training in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing.
  • Eligibility for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC. as a professional geoscientist or engineer, or as a professional in training.

You will join a team of hydrogeologists and geochemists led by Dr. Christoph Wels that assists mining companies worldwide in managing mine water issues, including mine de-watering, groundwater quality impacts due to Acid Rock Drainage (ARD), surface water management, and seepage control and mitigation.

You will work on mining projects in Canada, Australia, and South America where you will be primarily responsible for the interpretation of geological information as part of conceptual hydrogeological modeling. A good understanding of the glacial stratigraphy and history of North America, with an emphasis on terrain mapping and the interpretation of surficial geological information, is a requirement for this position. Some experience in the formation of soils and bedrock weathering in tropical and sub-tropical environments would be an asset.

Some domestic and international travel for this position can be expected, as the successful candidate will supervise hydrogeological drilling investigations at major metal mines and legacy ARD sites. This work would require core logging (bedrock and surficial geology), the installation of monitoring wells and/or pumping wells, and related reporting and data interpretation.

This position requires a meticulous and well-organized individual with a strong technical background and a willingness to work with a team of engineers, hydrogeologists, hydrologists, and environmental geochemists. You will be well-supported by other technical staff with experience in geological mapping and can expect to receive excellent opportunities to advance your career and industry-leading benefits and salary.
